Mr Abul Nurujjaman ACCA, FMAAT, the esteemed founder of Taj Accountants and Cloud BPO, and the Director-General of the British Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BBCCI), was honoured with the prestigious 'Freedom of the City of London' award. This accolade, presented at the Chamberlain’s Court, Guildhall, London, on Tuesday, October 18th, 2022, was in recognition of his outstanding contributions to accountancy, business mentorship, organizational excellence, and community service.
The ceremony, held in the historic Guildhall, was attended by distinguished leaders of the BBCCI, journalists, and prominent members of the community. In his acceptance speech, Mr. Nurujjaman expressed deep gratitude, stating, “I humbly accept this esteemed award and dedicate it to all those I have had the privilege to serve in our wonderful community. I am confident that this award will encourage me to further my efforts in serving my community, who continuously need inspiration, support, and guidance to reach their life goals.”
Born in December 1981 in Sylhet, Bangladesh, Mr. Nurujjaman's journey began when he moved to the United Kingdom at the age of 21 to pursue his education. He earned a Bachelor’s Honours degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Greenwich. In 2010, he established Taj Accountants in Whitechapel, East London. Under his visionary leadership, the firm has grown from a modest operation to one of East London’s leading accountancy firms, earning multiple awards for its excellence in customer service, accountancy, and taxation.
Mr Nurujjaman has previously been recognized with the AAT “Licensed Member of the Year Award” in 2017 and “The Best Small Business of the Year 2019” award by The London Asian Business Awards. His contributions have also been featured in the industry-leading “Accounting Technician Magazine.”
The 'Freedom of the City of London' award is a historic honour dating back to 1237, bestowed upon individuals who have made significant economic, cultural, and social contributions to London. Past recipients of this prestigious accolade include Prince George, Duke of Cambridge; former South African President Nelson Mandela; British Prime Ministers Winston Churchill, Benjamin Disraeli, and Margaret Thatcher; Princess Diana; Florence Nightingale; former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg; and former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, among others.
